A Fight Over A Girl Ends In Brain Injury

Dan Lynch’s Story

At age 19, Dan Lynch did not see himself in the hospital. Instead, he was supposed to be walking across the stage and graduating from high school. He was supposed to start his gap year before starting a trade school. There was a lot of hope and life in Dan Lynch until the night he was beaten up by two other 19-year old boys near Temple University.

Dan and his cousins were hanging out. While walking from dropping his female cousin off at her dorms, Dan and his other male cousin passed by a house near 16th and Oxford. While passing the house, a young man yelled that Dan and his cousin were walking the wrong block. There is video over the four boys hitting Dan and his cousin. If it weren’t for Dan’s cousin laying on top of him, Dan had the potential for a worse fate then losing part of his skull to prevent catastrophic brain swelling. Thankfully due to video footage and eyewitnesses, the boy responsible for assaulting Dan was arrested and currently awaiting criminal trial.

People with brain injuries cannot live their life like before the accident. People with brain injuries do not have the luxury of living life absent of worry. Everyday people with brain injuries are reminded by headaches, migraines, coma, or other such issues. Some need long term medical care. Some need a series of expensive surgeries. What people with brain injuries don’t need is the stress of being unable to get the full help they need to recover.
