Police Searching For Hit-And-Run Suspect That Killed One

We want to bring you the story of a tragic accident that took place last week on the Schuylkill Expressway that killed one person and seriously injured two others.

Police say that one vehicle was traveling east and collided with another vehicle. It then hit a concrete interstate divider, flipped, and came to rest on the westbound side of the highway. Three people were ejected as a result of the accident.

That was when a white van ran over two of the people who were ejected, killing a 46-year-old woman. The driver of the van got out briefly, then got back in the van and took off. Police are still searching for him at this time.

“It’s just very worrisome that somebody could actually realize they struck somebody on the side of the road and get back in their vehicle and just leave them there to die,” said Corporal Danea Durham of the Pennsylvania State Police.

At the Dan Doyle Law Group, we know that drivers in Pennsylvania face dangers when they hit the road. If you need a car accident lawyer in Philadelphia,PA, you can count on us to get the compensation you deserve.

What Are The Dangers

Did you know that during the latest reporting year for Pennsylvania there were nearly 130,000 vehicle accidents? Out of those, there were:

  • 1,137 fatalities
  • 80,612 injuries

While many injuries are minor, there were many serious injuries that completely altered victims’ lives. Among the most serious injuries a person can sustain in a vehicle accident are spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, major internal organ damage, amputations and more. Most of these carry heavy price tags, often reaching into the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills alone.

That does not include the hidden costs that often follow, including lost income of a person can no longer work as well as home and vehicle accommodations.

Drunk drivers continue to remain a major concern for Pennsylvania drivers. In fact, in 2017, alcohol-related fatalities were 26% of the total traffic fatalities. Just as concerning, and a growing problem, as distracted drivers. As technology becomes more and more a part of our lives, it is hard to turn it off when we are supposed to be driving. Distracted drivers often never see accidents that are about to happen.

Driver negligence can cause major harm, both in property damage as well as to the human body.
