Doorbell cameras have managed to capture some amazing footage. From would-be thieves to plane crashes, these devices have dominated the news. Recently, a Ring Doorbell camera captures a crash in West Chester that we want to discuss. At the Dan Doyle Law Group, our DUI accident attorneys are here to help if you or a loved one has been injured due to the actions of a drunk driver. We will work to secure the compensation you need.

What happened in this incident?

At the end of Octobers, residents on one West Chester Street were shocked when they heard the sounds of a violent crash after most people had gone to bed. A Ring Doorbell camera captured the moment when an alleged drunk driver rammed his vehicle into seven parked cars on one street.

The homeowner with the doorbell camera says he believes the sound of the crash triggered the camera to start recording. Pennsylvania State Police say that the 30-year-old male driver pulled up next to a trooper a few blocks from the incident. They chatted for a moment before the driver sped away. The alleged drunk driver ran a stop sign and then began slamming into cars.

Eyewitnesses to the crash said the scene was like something out of a movie.

The driver sustained minor injuries and nobody else was harmed. He was charged with aggravated assault, DUI, and other related charges.

This could have been worse

In this case, it was fortunate that the police were able to apprehend this driver. Drunk driving is a leading cause of traffic injuries and fatalities in the commonwealth. The Pennsylvania DOT reported approximately 138,000 total crashes during the latest reporting year. We know that these incidents injured over 80,000 people and killed 1,127.

We also know that alcohol-impaired drivers were responsible for over 10,000 total injuries and 26% of the total traffic fatalities that same year. Impaired drivers are much more likely to cause serious injuries in a crash because they often travel at high rates of speed and rarely slow down before an impact. It is not uncommon for our West Chester DUI accident lawyers to see clients with the following injuries:

  • Loss of or damage to a bodily organ
  • Dismemberment or amputation
  • Significant disfigurement
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Broken and dislocated bones
